Find Articulation/Find Expression

Frequently the situation arises that you have duplicate or extraneous articulation and/or expression definitions. The Find Articulation and Find Expression utilities allow you to find where they have been assigned in your document. When you choose one of these options, the plugin presents Finale's selection dialog for Articulations or Expressions. You select the item you are searching for and the plugin highlights the measure containing the first occurrence. If you are viewing a part or a staff set that does not show the measure with the item, the plugin issues a warning and highlights the entire measure stack.

The plugin remembers the item you selected. If you wish to search the document again for the same articulation or expression, select with Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac) and the plugin skips the dialog box. If you have not selected a region in your document, the plugin starts searching from the beginning of the document. If there is a selected region, the plugin starts from the first bar of the selected region but it continues searching to the end of the document.

Recommended steps:

  1. With no music selected in the document, use the Find Articulation or Find Expression option to choose an item.
  2. The plugin highlights the bar containing the first occurrence of the articulation. If you wish to search further:
  3. Click the next bar of music (selecting it) and then choose Find Articulation of Find Expression holding Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac).
  4. The plugin finds the next occurrence of the same item. Continue as needed.
